Butch was fifty-five when he enrolled in outpatient hospice services with terminal cancer. He recounted, âIt sneaked up on me and bit me on the rear end. They told me there wasnât any cure for me, so Iâll just live it out this way. It gets worse every day but Iâm still out hustling. Iâm helping someone build a horse barn down the road. But Iâll pay for it at the end of the day. Iâll be hurting pretty bad.â Butchâs wife Carmen stated, âI told him he needs to slow downâ, Butch explained, âI know the day is coming when Iâll be stuck in this house. So Iâm going to get out of here as much as possible for now.â Carmen shared, âBut he gets depressed sometimes.â Butch looked up at me and admitted, âYeah, I get pretty depressed dad.â I replied, âIt would be an insult for me to try to say something to make you feel better. I think youâre supposed to feel the way you do. When Iâve been
Roanoke officials have endorsed a vision to add greenery and lights, neaten timeworn sidewalks and beautify buildings in the greater Williamson Road business corridor.
The Williamson Road Area Business Association presented the plan in connection with a request for a bigger budget.
In response, the Roanoke City Council recently agreed to tax 135 additional real estate parcels spanning 209 acres. Thatâs in addition to 370 parcels already paying the tax earmarked for the trade group, which was set up in 1993 to foster development, business and revitalization.
No businesses opposed the plan, WRABA said. Council members voted unanimously to support it.
Valerie Brown, the association s executive director, called the groupâs efforts to advance economic development, city beautification, strategic planning and public safety significant. âBut there is so much more than we want and need to do,â she told the council in February.
Molson Coors Beverage company has had a difficult start to 2021. More than 1.7 million barrels (52 million gallons) of beer could be impacted by winter storms in Texas and a cybersecurity incident.
In February, the massive winter storm that paralyzed much of the state of Texas, stopped production at their Fort Worth brewery. The aftermath of the storm forced a halt of production for 11 days due to the damage incurred in the stateâs power grid. This took off-line around 14% of the companies brewing capacity between its 6 large scale facilities.
In March, Molson Coors was hit with a severe cyber-attack, halting production at their Albany, Georgia brewery. The Albany facility can produce as much as 10 million barrels of beer a year, about 1/6 of Molson Coors total capacity according to their website. Some delays and disruptions are still being experienced to its business.
Extension specialistsâ workloads monitored
A newly signed law requires the University of Wisconsin Board of Regents and UW-Madison chancellor to develop policies to monitor and report on Extension and outreach workloads of specialists funded by the UW-Division of Extension. The measure pertains to Extension-funded faculty and staff who work in applied agriculture at UW-Platteville, UW-River Falls, UW-Stevens Point, or UW-Madisonâs College of Agricultural and Life Sciences.
âOur state specialists are doing amazing work on the ground and in their communities, helping farmers adapt and grow their businesses and supporting the agricultural industry that is the backbone of our state,â said Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers. âIâm glad to sign this bill so they can continue doing their good work and be recognized for going above and beyond for our farmers and our state.â
